Sedation Dentistry Overview
Sedation Dentistry is performed by a specially trained and licensed dentist. Some patients choose Sedation Dentistry because they have a fear or phobia of going to the dentist, many times stemming from a bad dental experience. Others may want to get a bunch of dental work done in one day. Whatever your reasons, feel comfortable in knowing that the Sedation Dentists at Dental Professionals perform sedation dentistry daily.
Portland Sedation Dentist at Dental Professionals utilizes three types of Dental Sedation; Oral Sedation, Laughing Gas Sedation, and IV Sedation.
Oral Sedation Dentistry
First you will have an initial consultation with one of our Sedation Dentists here in Portland. If you are a candidate for sedation, the doctor will provide you with medication you will take the day of your dental appointment. You will need a friend to take you to from your dental appointment safely. The medication will make you feel drowsy, and you will be relaxed and anxiety free.
Laughing Gas Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous Oxide, commonly called laughing gas in the dentistry field was one of the first methods of sedation dentistry, and has been used for many, many years. Inhaling laughing gas makes one feel giddy and care-free, hence the commonly used name.
IV Sedation Dentistry
Not all Sedation Dentists can perform IV Sedation, partly because it requires additional or advanced training. Commonly called "deep conscious sedation," the advantage to IV Sedation is that it acts quickly. If a patient is not sedated enough during a treatment, the sedation dentist can administer more medication, and the results are immediate.
